Project Description

With the new excess soil rules being implemented in January 1st, 2021 all excess soils generated on a project must be management under Ontario Regulation 406/19 under the Environmental Protection Act – On-site and Excess Soil Management. The City of Ottawa required intersection and roadway modifications at Eagleson Road and Romina Street to This infrastructure was to be replaced throughout the summer 2022 season. As a result of the excess soil generated, a consultant was to be retained to manage the excess soil generated from the project. Concrete, granular and asphalt civil works was also required to complete the projects AllRock Role: AllRock was retained to perform materials testing and excess soil management in Ottawa for the soil generated during the project. AllRock first reviewed the analytical data from the previous Geotechnical reports by the Geotechnical Engineer in Ottawa. AllRock then prepared an excess soil management plan and provided supplemental environmental soil testing in Ottawa. The plan was then approved by the City Environmental Professional and the contractor was allowed to begin movement of excess soils. During construction, concrete, granular and asphalt civil works were required to undergo quality control testing and inspection. AllRock first completed granular compaction testing in Ottawa for roadways, curbs and sidewalks, followed by concrete testing the placement of curbs and sidewalks. Lastly, asphalt testing in Ottawa was required to ensure conformance of the contractors product, and placement procedures to the Engineering specifications.
